‘사라진다는 것은 무언가가 된다는 것이다.'

 

 

사라지는 사물이나 공간을 볼 때마다 언젠가 나 역시도 사라지는 것이라는 생각이 들었다.

그때부터인가 나는 주변에 사라져가는 것들을 그리기 시작했다.

그리고 나면, 사라지는 게 아니라 다시 만들어진다고 생각했다.

 

시들어버린 꽃이 다시 거름이 되어서 또 다른 식물을 피우는 것처럼 사라진다는 것은 동시에 다른 무언가가 된다는 것이다.

나의 작업은 사라짐을 받아들이는 방법이다.

 

사라지거나 시들어가는 식물, 그리고 재개발로 인해 사라져가는 동네들이 그 주제였다.

기존 작업이 '기록(record)'에 초점을 두었다면,

 

현재에는 '다시 만들어짐(remade)'에 집중한다.

평범해서 잊히거나 쓰임새를 다하여 사라져가는 사물들에 다시 이름을 붙이고 조합하여 사물에 상상력을 부여하고 작품으로써 새로운 해석의 가능성을 제시 한다.

 

화면을 가득 메우는 픽셀(Picture element)은 하나하나 만들어가는 ‘생성’을 상징하기도 한 편으로는 기존의 것이 분열하여 ‘소멸’됨을 암시하기도 한다. 이 모두가 같은 모습으로 연결되어있음은 사라지는 것이 끝이 아님을 이야기하고 있다.

'To disappear is to be something.'

​

 

Whenever I see objects or spaces disappearing, I thought that someday I would disappear as well.
From then on I began to draw things that were disappearing around.
Then, I thought it would be made again, not disappearing.

The fact that a faded flower disappears again as it becomes fertile and smokes another plant, is something else at the same time.
My work is a way to accept disappearance.

The disappearing or dying vegetation, and the neighborhoods that are disappearing due to redevelopment,
If the existing work focuses on the 'record'

Now I focus on 'remade'.
It gives the imagination to objects by giving names again and again to the objects that are forgotten or vanished with ordinary use, and presents the possibility of a new interpretation as works.
 
The picture element that fills the screen symbolizes 'creation' that makes one by one, but it also implies that the existing one is divided and 'disappears'. The fact that all of them are connected in the same way tells us that it is not the end of the disappearance.
